Reducing Static Cling, yes… Running Static Cling

While running last night, my mind was all over the place thinking about my upcoming race on Sunday.  It’s a big one for me… my first 50K at the Cowtown Marathon in Fort Worth.  Of course, self doubt starts popping in my head from time to time. 

Yes I’ve done the training.  Yes, I’ve been getting stronger and faster.  However, negative self-doubt always seems to sneak in.  This happens for me during the taper period of training.  It will also happen during the end of a marathon.

So, what do I do with these negative thoughts that are just really static clinging to my ability to succeed?  Well.. back to what I was thinking while running.  Every time I would get this static cling of negative thoughts, I thought of an encouraging word or a person that has helped me along in my journey.

static guard-croppedThe more I thought about this… the visual of Static Guard, the more I started imagining these positive influences getting rid of the static.  These great people and encouraging words are my Static Guard!

There are several people that I surround myself that are encouraging.  You MUST do this – you MUST surround yourself with positive people!  But there is one person that has been a huge positive over the last year or so which has been DK!  She probably doesn’t realize how big of a positive influence that she is.  I’ve only met her a few times in real life, so all of the positiveness has come from DailyMile, Twitter, or FaceBook.  It’s primarily been through DailyMile after posting a run.  She always has something so nice and encouraging that I just cannot help but to smile and lean on that.  Her comments are my Static Guard to the static that pops in my head!

Below are some of the comments that she left for me on my recent training runs.

After a long solo 22 mile run, she posted the above, “woohoo! you’re going to be Ultrafabulous!!!”

After my last long run on Saturday, she wrote the above, “I’m so excited for you!!! You are going to be awesome!!! FREAKin Awesome that is!!!”

Last night she posted another positive comment, “you are so ready you might explode… come ON Sunday!!”

When it comes to taking care of the static cling mentally, make sure to arm yourself with Static Guard – encouraging friends and uplifting words!

P.S.S.  I’m so looking forward to the Rite Aid Cleveland Marathon in May where I get to hit the 3rd marathon race in 90 days to capture Marathon Maniac status.
