As you could tell, I was a little frustrated with how things worked out at the Cowtown Marathon. So, I set my sights on the DRC Trinity River Levee 5K race to redeem myself. I was just hoping to PR, but got the bonus round by placing second in my age group! Way cool!
The DRC had a 10K and a 5K. I chose to run the 5K since I ran the marathon 6 days ago. Well, it seems that most everyone at the race ran the 10K event. When I was running toward the turnaround point for the 5K I wasn’t seeing to many runners. It was at that point that I thought I might have a chance to place.
Starting out was awesome as I kept my pace at 8:00 or quicker. However, once I turned around toward the finish, I was running straight into the 20+ mph of wind. Ughh! Definitely lowered my speed as my breathing sucked! I love how this race ends with a downhill… gravity just zooms you right into the finish line. So much fun!
I beat my previous 5K PR of 25:34 by 12 seconds finishing in 25:22. I know I can get that sucker under 25 minutes. :)
I stuck around with my DRC friends to see if I might’ve placed. I remembered just repeating to Felix, “I hope they call my name! I hope they call my name!”. They called the first place dude and he was just 9 seconds before me. I was certain they were going to call my name and I screamed when they did! Yep, I was excited! This is only the second time that I’ve placed and this is the highest place. Race results
