I did it! I ran 12.4 miles! Yes, I did this last week, however, it's so different in a race. As well, it's just different every single time. It's a triumph to get this 41 year old body to move for X number of miles for X amount of time. As well, it's a mental accomplishment to get your rear up at 5:00am to go for a morning run multiple times a week. However, I need to give God all the glory as he's given me the strength, courage, and ability to do this. He has worked on me over the last 9 months to become a better person - husband, father, friend. I still have got a such long way to go.
My personal goal was to run the race in 2 hours. I wasn't too sure if I would be able to hit it since I would have to hustle. I'm so happy to say that I ran the race in 2:00:50. That's an average pace of 9:39. Last week I ran the same distance in 2:06 on a flat, but windy course. Click HERE to check out the race results. My name will be the 74th one down. I finished 74th out of 97 in my age group. I finished 750th out of 1279 runners in the 20K.
Shown are my split times from my Garmin. I kept a very steady pace throughout the race even through the hills. It seemed like the hills would never end during miles 6 and 7. Mile 11 was a bit more downhill, but I kept that fast pace up through the end. It's always great seeing that finish line and crossing it!
Pictured below are myself, Lucy (Pace Group Leader), and Chris. It was great seeing familiar faces from my training group.
I cannot wait to run the Half Marathon with Denise in 6 weeks. It's going to be a blast. Psssstttt... it's only .7 more miles. I think I can do it!
