Running Pics

I got caught by the camera at the Tour Des Fleurs last week.  Here’s the pics they clicked off.  I need to spot these guys so I can smile!

I look pretty brutal in this last picture!  However, I had my favorite Adidas running outfit on.  I dig running clothes.

Denise did her thing up in Akron, OH this weekend.  Putting another Half Marathon under her belt.  I don’t think I’ll be able to catch her!  :)

I’m proud of her!  Check out that awesome smile!  I think of it when I run!  Yes, I’m one of her biggest fans!

Go See Fireproof Your Marriage

Ursula and I went to see Fireproof Your Marriage last night.  It was awesome!  I have no problem saying that I’m a pretty sensitive kind of guy… in other words a shed a tear or two or three.  I realize that I have such a long way to become the husband that God wants me to be.

Check out the interview with Kirk Cameron on the Today Show.  I love hearing how this Hollywood actor has vowed not to kiss another woman.  Kirk Cameron is integrity in action!

I’m planning on getting the Love Dare Book as soon as I can.

FIREPROOF

fireproofbanner

This Friday, September 26, a new movie opens that you should see. FIREPROOF is the third feature film from Sherwood Pictures and the Kendrick Brothers—the creators of FACING THE GIANTS. What’s super cool is that “Sherwood Pictures” is a ministry of Sherwood Baptist Church in Albany, GA and the “Kendrick Brothers” who wrote, directed, and produced the movie are not only brothers, they are both associate pastors at their church!

I'm so much looking for toward a date night with Ursula and checking out this movie.  Go see a movie that I'm sure will be an investment in your marriage!

Tour Des Fleur 001-a I did it!  I ran 12.4 miles!  Yes, I did this last week, however, it's so different in a race.  As well, it's just different every single time.  It's a triumph to get this 41 year old body to move for X number of miles for X amount of time.  As well, it's a mental accomplishment to get your rear up at 5:00am to go for a morning run multiple times a week.  However, I need to give God all the glory as he's given me the strength, courage, and ability to do this.  He has worked on me over the last 9 months to become a better person - husband, father, friend.  I still have got a such long way to go.

My personal goal was to run the race in 2 hours.  I wasn't too sure if I would be able to hit it since I would have to hustle.  I'm so happy to say that I ran the race in 2:00:50.  That's an average pace of 9:39.  Last week I ran the same distance in 2:06 on a flat, but windy course.  Click HERE to check out the race results.  My name will be the 74th one down.  I finished 74th out of 97 in my age group.  I finished 750th out of 1279 runners in the 20K.

splitsShown are my split times from my Garmin.  I kept a very steady pace throughout the race even through the hills.  It seemed like the hills would never end during miles 6 and 7.  Mile 11 was a bit more downhill, but I kept that fast pace up through the end.  It's always great seeing that finish line and crossing it!

Pictured below are myself, Lucy (Pace Group Leader), and Chris.  It was great seeing familiar faces from my training group.

I cannot wait to run the Half Marathon with Denise in 6 weeks.  It's going to be a blast.  Psssstttt... it's only .7 more miles.  I think I can do it!

Friday Funny Video

I got home from Chicago at 10:30pm last night.  A bit late to see the kids as they were already in bed.

HAPPINESS is my son "sneaking" out of his room to give me a hug.  We had a great meaningful embrace and then he said don't tell Mom, I'm suppose to be in bed.  I just love this gesture of his love for me.  I cherish it!

Enjoy this funny video.  I really like it because 1) I like monkeys and 2) I like taunting cats, namely our cat Jacob.

By the way, it's 24 hours until I run in my longest race to date.  The Tour Des Fleurs 20K down at White Rock Lake.  I'm excited, nervous, and just cannot wait to do it!  There's something about a race!

1 Week Until Tour Des Fleurs

tdf1 week until my next race - Tour Des Fleurs at White Rock Lake.  I haven't been in a race for a few months as the summer heat has been pretty oppressive in Texas.  I've been rising pretty early to beat the heat.  I usually run at 6:00am.  Even so, the temp is still in the low 70s and rising.

I'll be running the 20K in the Tour Des Fleurs.  The 20K is 12.4 miles which is pretty challenging since I've ran this distance only once --- this morning.  I really wanted to run the distance before actually being in the race.  It's great to get it mentally and physically over with before being in a race at that distance.

I'm only .7 miles away from hitting the Half Marathon distance of 13.1 miles.  How exciting is that!?!  In the beginning of the year, I couldn't run 2 minutes and now I'm running for 2 hours.

I started my run this morning at 5:30am so that I could beat Hurricane Ike and be able to see Cairo's 8:00am soccer game.  Cairo played well, but the team was beat pretty badly.  It was exciting to see him up top playing forward.  He had a couple of scoring opportunities, but couldn't get them in there.  The great thing is that he sees what he needs to improve on in this new position.

The rain and wind picked up pretty well here in Frisco from Hurricane Ike, but nothing too crazy.

Funny Friday Videos

I love seeing funny videos and passing them along, but I hate cluttering up email inboxes.  So, I'll be posting my favorite funny videos here every Friday.

Today, I'll start with 4 funny videos.  They all have to do with cats.  Growing up with a dog, I didn't get to hang out with cats too much until I got married.  For the last 17+ years, I've got to know the feline bunch a little better.  These videos give you a little closer insight into these very unique creatures.

This is one of my all time favorite videos.  Over 12 million people have viewed it on YouTube.  Sometimes I just start singing the song.

The following videos are by the same person and crack me up every time I watch them.

Labor Day Weekend

Briana-on-the-runI hope everyone had a nice relaxing Labor Day weekend.  We had fun at the soccer fields on Saturday and Sunday and then pretty much relaxed the rest of the time.  Briana and her team had a great showing at the Bob Wiseman Labor Day Soccer Tournament.  They won 2 out of their 3 games.  Unfortunately they didn't make it into the playoffs/finals as they needed to tie or win the last game.  We had a lot of scoring opportunities, but couldn't get a goal to drop to tie or win the last game.  The team tried so hard.  It's a bummer to see them come so close to making it into the playoffs.  The good thing is that their play got better for each game.  Briana played wheels off as usual!  I love watching her play.

I logged a good amount of hours with Cairo on the XBox 360 playing video games.  Cairo and I played online with his school friends.  They were surprised that I was playing with him and them and wanted to know how to get their fathers to play.  Dads - you don't have to be good at your kiddos' games/sports, just be there and enjoy it with them.  Believe me, I'm pretty darn bad, but I enjoy the time that I'm hanging out with Cairo Man!  These video games sure are different then back in the Atari days.

We also did some swimming in the back yard.  Good times!
